The COVID-19 global pandemic and concern for officer safety
Has led to the disposable restraint and sanitizing agents being considered critical personal protective equipment for law enforcement and corrections officers. Increasing numbers of departments are reevaluating policies to safely handle suspects while also protecting officers by using disposable restraints, protective gear and sanitizing agents. Government guidelines are quickly changing to address this urgent need. Below are some examples of changing guidelines.
IACP COVID-19 Guidelines If available, use flex-cuffs in place of handcuffs.
OSHA COVID-19 Guidelines Disposable flexible restraints (such as zip-ties) are preferable.
Georgia Municipal Association Consider the temporary use of flex-cuffs in place of handcuffs.
