Why Use Cobra Cuffs?
Strength, Safety & Dependability are all Key Features of the Cobra Cuff Design. We have created in Cobra Cuffs, a product that covers all of the recommendations we received from Law Enforcement while at the same time remaining competitively priced. We were also able to eliminate the problems associated with zip ties and other commercial restraints. Milspec is proud to provide this innovative product to Law Enforcement to assist them in their daily duties. Below is a list of reasons to consider using Patent Protected Cobra Cuffs in Law Enforcement or Military operations.
1) You can use a pin or paper clip to easily disable any Zip Tie type restraint (not possible with the Cobra Cuff Double lock). Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB_gwYz5Mqs. If you use less expensive zip ties, visit the ITS Tactical site. You may want to reconsider saving a few pennies vs. officer safety and the tactical advantage of having the Cobra Cuffs. In addition, Cobra Cuffs are far easier to apply.
ITS Tactical produced the Youtube video above and were provided Cobra Cuffs after they called and requested samples for evaluation. In summary, ITS Tactical could not disable or break Cobra Cuffs –and they are experts at breaking restraints. See endorsement by ITS: http://www.itstactical.com/2010/05/28/restraints-were-proud-to-endorse/
2) Cobra Cuffs have a 1-piece design with riveted straps and locking head. This allows Easy Application to both wrists at the same time by just inserting your finger and pulling. Once applied, the leverage and distance that an officer has with Cobra Cuffs; gives them a tremendous Tactical Advantage.
3) Cobra Cuffs come Completely Assembled and folded for quick & convenient application. Cobra Cuffs compact design allows them to be carried in packs of 3, 6 or 10 sets at one time per officer. We also offer Modular Restraint Pouches for Easy Access & storage. You just can’t do that with any single or double Zip Tie type restraint. In addition, they are small enough to fit a few into your pocket or Pre-Load into Molle Vests open for Fast Release & application.
4) Cobra Cuffs are the Only Disposable Restraint with a Patented Double Locking Clip that helps Prevent Over-Tightening and provides Extra Safety & Leverage for the officer. If there is a failure with the ratchet in a standard zip tie (which does happen); then you have a free suspect. That is why we designed ours with the Wedge Shaped Double Locking Clip, in addition to a ratchet. Once you push the Double Locking Clip into place, there is nothing to break away, it wedges into the space and cannot be pulled all the way through without catastrophic failure of the strap itself. This is virtually impossible for even the strongest prisoner.
5) Various colors offered allow Color-Coding of Prisoners for offence type, danger or as a transport code. We currently manufacture Cobra Cuffs in Black, White, Red, Orange, Yellow and Pink. Red for example can be used to indicate a known history of violence or danger to officers & health care workers in a hospital environment. Other colors can be used to indicate gang affiliation or offence type. For large quantity orders, we will also make custom colored Cobra Cuffs. Blue is reserved as a Trainer Cuff Only and is re-useable so that it easily pulls free for officer training.
6) Since Cobra Cuffs are Inexpensive & Disposable; you never have to worry about finding or cleaning your metal cuffs after an arrest is made and the prisoner is transported for processing.
However, properly designed Zip Ties can be useful in certain situations and we provide a Supertough Nylon, 22'' Single Zip Tie for applications such as strapping a prisoner to a hospital bed, or other object to restrain temporarily. Tactical Zip Ties can also be used to restrain the feet during transportation in the back of a squad car. This can be done by using Cobra Cuffs around the ankles; then run a single zip tie around the middle and attach to the seat frame or eye bolt on the floor. This is sometimes necessary to restrain dangerous or violent prisoners during transport and eliminates the prisoner’s ability to kick the windows.
Even if Metal Cuffs are used to subdue a suspect, Cobra Cuffs can be very useful. Since the arresting officer is not normally the one who does the transport and or processing; you can apply the Cobra Cuffs in addition to metal cuffs; and then remove the metal ones for transport (leaving Cobra Cuffs in place). That way, you retain the tactical control advantage of the Cobra Cuffs during transport and the arresting officer keeps his metal cuffs.
